Wanting nothing,
With all your heart,
Stop the stream.
-- Buddha
The purpose of the Enlightenment Intensive is to provide you with the greatest possible opportunity to experience the truth for yourself. It is a three day residential retreat, carefully structured to remove all distractions from the environment and to support you in concentrating your energy and attention on enlightenment.

The technique used is a blend of contemplation and communication. Participants work in pairs, regularly changing partners throughout the retreat. Working with the question, “Who am I?” you are asked to be open to a direct experience of yourself - who you really are - and to share with your partner the results of this contemplation as it unfolds. As you move deeply through this process, the barriers to enlightenment gradually fall aside and you are left facing the truth.

Jesus said, “If you bring forth what is inside you, what you bring forth
will save you. If you do not bring forth what is inside you, what you do
not bring forth will destroy you.”
-- The Gospel of Thomas

In practicing the enlightenment technique, you engage in the process of bringing forth what is inside you. No one can make the truth occur for us, but each of us can surrender to it and we can share ourselves, just as we are, with each other. The result of this sharing is intimacy, openness, and love. In this fertile ground the barriers to enlightenment gradually fall aside and we are left facing the truth.

What is it that we know when we know the truth? Is it The Truth, or is it just something true which may be different for everyone? Normal experience is indirect, filtered through our minds, bodies and emotions. In enlightenment, the layers of interpretation peel away and reality is present. Our attachments to having things be our way disappear. Memories of the past and concerns for the future dissolve and we are left with the fullness of the moment.

Yoga is the uprooting of the attachments in the mind.
-- Patanjali

Enlightenment does not occur in some distant, mythic land. It is available to you in every moment. The gift of the Enlightenment Intensive is to bring this possibility closer to you. The power and beauty of this work reside entirely in the sincere hearts of the participants: It is your love of truth, of each other, which opens the doors. In this spirit, I invite you to join us.

We take long trips.
We puzzle over the meaning of a painting or a book,
when what we’re wanting to see and understand
in this world, we are that.
-- Rumi
